Help Build An Institution For Women In Sierra Leone

My name is Felleh Rita Arah. I am the CEO and founder of “Daughters of Sierra Leone,” a women-owned and operated forum to unite women in Sierra Leone. We help to promote the development of Sierra Leone, where women will empower one another socially and in times of need. Sierra Leone is a small country in west Africa where approximately 60% of its citizens live in poverty. It also ranks among the nation’s poorest nations, and about 50% of the women are unemployed.

Sierra Leone experienced a deadly civil war that lasted 11 years; it started in March 1991 and went down in history as one of the bloodiest wars in Africa, resulting in more than fifty thousand deaths and half a million displaced in a country of four million people. The war finally came to an end in January 2002, but the country is still suffering from the impacts of this dreadful event. Over the recent years, I have donated school supplies to kids in different neighborhoods for back to school.

When Covid-19 first broke out I donated face to local market women, these are women who sell food items in a crowd setting, they get in contract and interact with a lot of people throughout their day, so we wanted to protect them in the little way we can. We are seeking this fund to start a new project in Sierra Leone, I plan on building a school for women to learn different skills that will help them earn jobs and even be self-employed, these women will pursue a skill that is a hobby of theirs that way at the end for the workshop, they will be earning money and doing something they truly love.

The different skills that will be taught are sewing, braiding, cooking, and so many more, this donation will help out greatly with building supplies, interior design, and the different equipment needed to learn the skills
